short, shining, stunning

Short, Shining, Stunning; these three S's are the best descriptors of Matthew Williamson's Spring 2010 collection showcase on the 20th of September at London Fashion Week.

The defining style in William's collection was definitely returning to his retro roots, with all dresses cutting off just above the knee with the exception of three floor-length dresses.  As usual, the collection was done his signature stunning use of chic colour patterns, alongside shiny materials found in either the tops, bottoms or amazing shoes donned by the models.

After scanning through this collection, I felt that the one piece that stuck out the most for me was one of the long dresses Williamson decided to showcase that I have linked below. Unlike the other short, above-knee dresses which felt like high-fashion meant for just about anywhere, this particular dress was meant for the more formal outings, almost ballroom-esque. The strapless dress offers the unique pattern of what looks like an orchid, which adds a sense of mystique and delicate beauty to this dress. Although the unique colour-way may seem to take away from the sense of formality in the dress, after one can get past this, they will fully see the potential this dress has to offer to those who are daring enough to wear it to formal functions. Not only will they stand out amongst the more traditional and simple pieces usually found at formals, but I feel they will, without a doubt, be the talk and envy of many others. Much like a delicate, eye-catching orchid amongst roses.
